Abstract

Objective To study the methodology and effectiveness of sterotactic radiotherapy(SRT) for intractanial tumors. Methods The treatment and long-term follow-up data of 23 cases with intracranial tumors, which were treated by fractionated (BRW) radiotherapy,hypofrac-tionated (GTC) radiotherapy, multifractionated (GTC) radiotherapy and hyperfractionated(GTC)radiotherapy respectively, are analyzed comparatively. Results Patients were followed up for(23.31±13.83) months.A one-year survival of 85.0%,a survival time of 23.31 months and an actuarial local tumor control of 86.67% were achieved. Conclusions Definite curative effects with low morbidity of fractionated sterotactic radiotherapy on intracranial tumors were verified. And it was much better in those with small lesions and highly fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy. For patients in the same condition, the effectiveness of stereotactic radiotherapy was superior to that of the same single highdose stereotactic radiosurgery. The indi cations of SRT should be managed both cautiously and strictly. The schedule and dose should be selected rationally according to the location, nature and volume of the tumor, the general conditions and radiotherapy, history of the patient.
