Abstract

Conditions of colour reaction of the new reagent 2 tetrazolylazo 5 diethylamino phenol with Cu 2+ were studied. Results show that the new colour reagent reacts with Cu 2+ to form a stable red complex(1∶2) in the presence of HAc NaAc buffer at pH5.0.The maximal absorption wavelength and apparent molar absorptivity are 530nm and 3.52×10 4L·mol -1 ·cm -1 respectively.Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0—1.0mg/L Cu(Ⅱ).The method was applied to the direct determination of copper in aluminium and magnesium alloys with satisfactory results.
