Abstract

An idiom is the soul of a language as well as an fossil of rhetorical figures.They are concise and comprehebsuve,pregnant with meaning,vivid and visual.They not only reflect the colorful culture of languages but also show the use of various rhetorical figures.This essay studies rhetoric of English idioms on the aspect of phonology,image and semantics to reveal their charm.
