Study of time of catheter left in urethra after internal urethrotomy of urethral stricture

[Objective] To explore the relationship between urethral healing and the of catheter left in uretra after internal urethrotomy of urethral stricture.[Methods] 31 cases were underwent urethroscopy and replaced catheter periodically after internal urethrotomy of urethral stricture,the conditions of urethral healing were observed follow-up.[Results] 27 cases recovered after catheter left in urethra above 8 weeks(including 8 weeks)and 3 cases less than 6 weeks,one case insisted removing catheter did not heal.The shortest healing time was 4 weeks and the longest one was 12 weeks.According to one to five years followed-up,it showed 20 cases urinate normally did not need urethral dilation while 6 cases need occasionally,3 cases need urethral dilation periodically,2 cases need urethral dilation frequently had to be performed operation again.[Conclusion] It appears a positive correlation between urethral healing and the time of catheter left in urethra;urethroscopy can offer the reliable basis for whether continuing keeping the catheter or not.
