Isolation and Identification and Characteristics of the Pathogen of a New Duck Plague

Abstract

From 2000,there is a new kind of meat duck disease take place in different districts of Shandong province.The symptom and pathological change of the disease is as same as duck plague,but mainly occurred in duckling,while adult duck less infected.A virus with 80-200 nm diameters and having envelope was isolated from died meat duck.It′s characteristics were also studied.The results showed that nuclear acid type of the virus was DNA.The ELD_(50) was 10~(-3.46)/0.2 mL.The mortality of the virus to cherry valley duck embryo,muscovy embryo,sheldrake embryo and SPF chicken embryo was 100%,90%,20% and 0% respectively.The virus was sensitive to chloroform,aether,acid and alkali.When heated at 56℃ for 30 minutes,the virus will be inactived.The results of coaggulation test showed that the virus has no coaggulate properties to red blood cell.The results of serological test showed that the virus can not be neutralized by the serum of duck virus hepatitis,gosling plague and muscovy duckling parvovirus disease.But it can be partially neutralized by duck plague serum.The results showed that the virus has partial relativity with duck plague virus.Through above tests,we confirmed that the virus was one of herpetoviridae,because it can not be neutralized by duck plague serum completely,so it is named tentatively a new type of duck plague virus.
