Investigation on Labeling of Genetically Modified Food in Tianjin

To understand the status of genetically modified food labeling in Tianjin,according to category of agricultural genetically modified organisms under the labeling system by the ministry of agriculture,the status of genetically modified food labeling of 114 kinds of food from 14 large-scale supermarkets were investigated.The results showed that there were 24 kinds of food with geneti-cally modified food labeling and 9 kinds of food with non-genetically modified food labeling in the survey report.The labeling rate of genetically modified food and non-genetically modified food were 21.05% and 7.89%.At the same time the survey also found that labeling method had a big difference between genetically modified food and non-genetically modified food.The enterprises us-ing non-genetically modified food labeling had almost not third-party certification.In future,the government should strengthen the supervision level of genetically modified food and non-genetically modified food labeling,so as to protect consumers right to know and choose on transgenic food.
