Abstract
Objective To summarize the experiences of facial nerve preservation in acoustic neuromas microsurgery. Methods 25 acoustic neuromas were microsurgically removed by retrosigmoid approach. Results The tumors were totally removed in 20 cases(80%),subtotally removed in 5 cases. The anatomical facial nerve reservation had been achieved in 22 cases(88%)and functional reservation in 19 cases(76%). No patient died. A follow-up study from 3 months to 5 years was performed in 25 patients. According to House-Brackmann facial nerve grading system, 15 of them were grade ⅠorⅡ,6 were Ⅲ or Ⅳ,and 4 were Ⅴ or Ⅵ . Conclusions Understanding the pathological-anatiomic relationship of facial nerve and tumor, properly adopting the microsurgical principle and skillfully mastering the surgical technique can improve the preservation of facial nerve.
