The Relation between Self-esteem and Mental Health in Junior Middle School Students

Objective To explore the relationship between self-esteem and mental health of junior middle school students.Method 209 junior middle school students were investigated with Self-esteem Questionnaire and Middle School Student Health Questionnaire.Results The first-year students score(30.77±4.95),of which 88.0% have high scores and 12.0% have low scores.Their mental health scores lower than 2;the dimension of compulsion scores higher than 2;the higher self-esteem group has a more lower score than lower group on the dimension of compulsion,paranoid,hostility and so on.The difference is statistically significant(P0.05 or P0.01).There is no statistically significant difference on malajustment and psychological dissonance between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion The self-esteem and mental health of junior middle school students are at a medium level.and there is correlation between self-esteem and mental health.
