An analysis of results of HIV voluntary counseling and testing in Guangxi,2008-2011

Objective To analyze the results of HIV VCT in 2008-2011,to provide scientific evidence for the development of strategy of HIV prevention and control and also to render better guidance for HIV VCT services in Guangxi.Methods The information of Testing and Counseling Cases Registration Form was downloaded from the National AIDS Comprehensive Information System and was analyzed.Results In the span of 4 years(2008 to 2011),157,159,213 and 261VCT clinics provided VCT services for 100 360,76 754,84 552 and 96 987persons times,respectively,of whom two third received VCT services from CDC institutions.Among the VCT clients the majority was in the prime of life aged 20-39 years,followed by people aged 40-59 years.They were mainly composed of individuals with extramarital heterosexual behaviors,followed by injecting drug users and individuals with HIV positive spouses/regular sex partners;other clients and those with unknown information accounted for a relatively high proportion,but were decreasing year after year.The overall HIV positive detection rate accounted for 5.4% and the detection rate in the respective 4 years was 3.74%,5.74%,4.80% and 7.68%.Among the HIV positive clients,the majority had HIV positive spouses/regular sex partners,followed by injecting drug users and HIV positive mothers.HIV positive rate were increasing gradually among individuals with extramarital heterosexual or homosexual behaviors.Conclusion Considerable number of HIV infected individuals were detected by VCT clinics in Guangxi.Further efforts should be made to improve VCT services and to strengthen the training of VCT counselors so that VCT clinics may be brought into full play by taking their unique advantage.
