3D nonlinear finite element analysis of Jiangpinghe Concrete Face Rockfill Dam

Abstract

In this paper, a three dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis is adopted to calculate and simulate the stresses and deformations of the Jiangpinghe Concrete Face Rockfill Dam from its construction to operation period. In the study, the different parameters of rock filled materials (the materials used for the dams of the Shuibuya and Tianshengqiao First cascade rockfill dam) and different interface element models have been adopted. The stresses and deformations of dam body in different stages have been analyzed. The respective results are compared and analyzed among the Jiangpinghe, Shuibuya and Tianshengqiao concrete face rockfill dam. Finally, the authors give some useful suggestions to the further more reasonable design work.
