Abstract

The molar dissolution enthalpies of the reactants and the products of the coordination reaction of cerium nitrate with alanine have been measured by classical solution calorimeter, the calorimetric solvent is 2 mol·L-1 HCl solution. The standard molar reaction enthalpy ΔrHθm of this coordination reaction has been determined by a new chemical circle, and ΔrHθm=-22.268 kJ·mol-1.From the results and other auxiliary quantities, the standard molar enthalpy of formation of the new complex Ce(Ala)4(NO3)3· H2O has been calculated to be ΔfHθm[Ce(Ala)4(NO3)3·H2O,s,298.2 K]=-3 928.5 kJ·mol-1.
