Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of topical anesthesia in trabeculectomy. Methods The anesthesia effects on trabeculectomy were compared between 30 cases of topical anesthesia and 30 cases of retrobulbar anesthesia. Results The anesthesia effects had no difference between the two groups(P0.05).But the complications in the group of retrobulbar anesthesia was higher than that of the group of topical anesthesia(P0.05).Conclusion Topical anesthesia is effective, safe and simple anesthesia alternative in routine anti-glaucomatous surgery. It is worthy to be applied widely.
