AIM and METHOD:Human bone marrow mononuclear cell incubated in a semi-solid culture medium with methylcellulose were used to evaluate the effects of human umbilical cord blood serum (CBS),PHA-mononuclear cell conditioned medium (PHA-MNCCM) and rhG-CSF on human bone marrow CFU-G. RESULTS:The G-CSF activity existed in CBS, and stimulatory effect of CBS on the proliferation of human marrow CFU-G progenitor cells compared with that of PHA-MNC CM was (CFU-G:148.0±88.7 colonies/2×10 5 ( n=20 ) vs 59.0±28.8 colonies/2×10 5). There was statistical difference ( P 0.01).Stimulatory effect of CBS compare with that of rhG-CSF (30ng) (CFU-G:152.0±43.5 colonies/2×10 5) showed no statistical difference ( P 0 05). CONCLUSION:the hematopoietic activity was higher in CBS than in PHA-MNCCM.
