Abstract

Different extracts of orange peels was obtained at room temperature using petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate,n-butyl alcohol and water as solvent. The DPPH free radical and nitrite scavenging capacity of the 5 extracts were determined;and the contents of their main active ingredients were examined. The results showed that all the five extracts from the orange peels had antioxidant activity and nitrite-scavenging ability. And the strongest antioxidant activity was observed in ethyl acetate extract. The content of limonin, flavonoid, total phenolics and tannins of the five extracts was different. The highest content of the four ingredients was detected in ethyl acetate extract;and correlation analysis showed that the content of flavonoids exhibited significant correlation with the antioxidative activity and nitrite-scavenging ability of the extracts from orange peels.
