Abstract

The metallogenic series theory is an important thought guiding the studies of metallogenic regularities in China. A good understanding of the relationship between metallogenic series and geological formation is of considerable significance as it can help link this theory with the studies of metallogenic background and thus be applied to mineral deposit prediction and prospecting deployment. In accordance with the forming time, the metallogenic series related to geological formation can be divided into syngenetic metallogenic series, pene-contemporaneous metallogenic series, epigenetic metallogenic series and superficial weathering metallogenic series. Several metallogenic series related to the same geological formation comprise a metallogenic series family. When the theory is applied to regional metallogenic regularity studies, metallogenic belts should be defined first, and then the metallogenic series family related to the main geological formations in every metallogenic belt can be summarized.
