Total Factor Productivity in the Western Region:An Empirical Analysis Based on DEA-Malmquist Index

Abstract

On the basis of DEA-Malmquist productivity index approach,this paper makes an empirical calculation of the changes in total factor productivity(TFP) in the western region from 2000 to 2009.It is found that since the strategy of development of the western region was implemented ten years ago,growth in TFP,which is mainly due to technological progress,has promoted economic growth in the region,and technological efficiency and scale efficiency have hindered its role.
