Abstract

Objective:To further understand the mechanism of rheumatoid arthritis by measuring CD5 + B lymphocytes in the peripheral blood. Methods; Circulating CD5 + B lymphocytes were analyzed by flow cytometry in 38 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 35 healthy controls. Results; There was a significant elevation of CD5 + B lymphocytes(4. 68 ±2. 2% ) in RA patients when compared with healthy controls( 1. 47 ±0. 6% ) (P 0. 01). CD5 ± B lymphocyte level significantly increased in high active RA patients(5. 9 ±1.8%) compared with low active RA patients (2. 7±1.1%)(P0.01). CD5 ± B lymphocyte level significantly decreased in high active RA patients after remission ( P 0. 01 ). Conclusion; CD5 + B lymphocyte levels significantly increased in RA patients, and were correlated with disease activities.
