Abstract
Objective To understand the prevalence of HIV and syphilis infection and characteristics of high risk behavior among men who have sex with men(MSM) in Shenzhen. Methods HIV and syphilis surveillance data were collected with informed consent among MSM in Shenzhen in 2012 and analyzed by univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Results A total of 502 MSM were enrolled and received voluntary counseling and testing,42.6% were predominantly inserted partners,25.5% were receptive partners,30.1% were both inserted and receptive partners and only 1.8% seldom had anal sex or always had oral sex. In the last 6 months,68.3% reported having had more than one sex partners for anal sex,65.3% reported having had more than one sex partners for oral sex. In the last 6 months,40.9% used condoms for every act of anal sex,3.6% used condoms for every act of oral sex and 44.5% used condoms for every act of vaginal sex with female sex partners. The infection rates of syphilis,HIV,and syphilis/HIV co- infection among them were 18.3%,9.8%,and 5.0% respectively. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HIV infection was significant associated with role in homosexual behavior and the number of anal sex partners in the last 6 months, and syphilis infection was significant associated with test history for HIV,role in homosexual behavior and ever been money boy. Conclusion The prevalence of HIV infection among MSM in Shenzhen is still rising. Health education and behavioral intervention should be strengthened to prevent HIV transmission effectively.
