Abstract
Chemical components of turpentine and its hydrogenated products were analyzed completely by GC MS DS technique using DB 5 capillary column. Thirty six compounds were isolated from the starting turpentine and thirty two of them were identified. Its main components are α pinene, β pinene, limonene, longifolene, ρ cymene, camphene, α myrcene and caryophyllene etc., Thirty two compounds were isolated from the corresponding hydrogenated turpentine and twenty four of them were identified. It is composed mainly of cis pinane, trans pinane, longifolene, ρ menthane, 2,6 dimethyloctane and ρ cymene etc., Hydrogenation reactions of various components of the turpentine were also summarized in this paper.
