Abstract

Formative assessment bears a very important role in the higher education, which aims at helping both students and instructors moderate the learning procedures and performance, promoting the communication between the learners and teachers. When the information is fed back to them, students can adjust their learning process and improve their academic performance, while instructors can make use of the feedbacks to reshape their teaching models. This paper seeks to explore some central dimensions of formative assessment and relationship between self-assessment and peer assessment. Certain strategies of formative assessment are suggested as to strengthen its role in curriculum evaluation in China universities in which summative assessment is prevalent.
