Abstract
OBJECTIVE To Understand the correlation between ischemic ophthalmopathy and carotid artery stenosis and analyze the accuracy of color doppler flow imaging(CDFI) on carotid artery. METHODS Selected 97 cases of patients who had performed examination of digital subtraction angiography(DSA) on carotid artery in Shanxi DaYi hospital and gather medical history of the patients which mainly included transient amaurosis, visual field defects etc. Recorded the patients' results of DSA and CDFI on carotid artery. The routine eye examination was performed on all patients to clarify the presence of ischemic ophthalmopathy. Dealt with the statistics and analyzed correlation between carotid artery stenosis and ischemic ophthalmopathy and evaluated the accuracy of CDFI on carotid artery. RESULTS Based on the Spearman rank correlation, the incidence of ischemic ophthalmopathy was positively correlated with the stenosis degree of carotid artery(rs=0.9). Using the results of DSA as the gold standard, it was found that the sensitivity of CDFI testing on the presence of narrow was 86.6%, the specificity 82.9%,the accuracy 85.1%, positive predictive value 87.4%, and negative predictive value 81.9%. The weighted kappa value that CDFI compared with DSA was 0.8011 when it was used to diagnose the level of carotid artery stenosis. CONCLUSIONS Ischemic ophthalmopathy had a close relationship with the stenosis degree of carotid artery. CDFI analyses of the carotid artery agreed with DSA analysis. The CDFI analysis of the carotid artery was considered as a routine examination for clinical diagnosis of carotid artery stenosis.
