Procalcitonin,CRP and WBC in Diagnosis of Diseases in Children with Respiratory Tract Infection

Abstract

Objective:To compare the respiratory tract infection of children with bacterial and non bacterial infections serum procalcitonin(PCT),C reactive protein(CRP)and white blood cell(WBC)count of different levels,to explore the value of PCT,CRP and WBC in diagnosis of bacterial infection.Method:Two hundred and twenty patients with respiratory tract infection in children,according to the presence or absence of bacterial infection were divided into bacterial infection group for 142 cases and non bacterial infection group for 48 cases,all patients were detected in the serum PCT,CRP and WBC levels,and the detection results of two groups of children were compared.Result:The serum PCT,CRP and WBC positive rate of bacterial infection group were higher than that of non bacterial infection group,the differences were statistically significant(P0.05);the sensitivity and the specificity of PCT were significantly higher than those in CRP and WBC.Conclusion:Serum PCT on bacterial infectious disease diagnosis value than CRP and WBC,it is one of the sensitive marker of bacterial infection in children.
