Abstract

Aim: To establish rat model of reflux esophagitis by three different surgical methods. Methods:A total of 70 male SD rats aging 8-weeks were randomly divided into four groups. Group Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ, 20 in each group, were performed with three different methods of surgical anastomose:esophagojejunostomy, esophagoduodenostomy, esophagoduodenostomy plus gastric resection, respectively.Ten rats in group Ⅳ were sham operation control. The animals were sacrificed at 12 weeks after operation. Histopathology examination of esophageal epithelium was performed. Results: Reflux esophagitis was observed in Group Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ,but not in the control group. Severe reflux esophagitis was observed in Group Ⅰ and Group Ⅱ, and the incidence of Barett's esophagus were 6/14,5/13,respectively, which were higher than that of Group Ⅲ. Conclusion: Reflux esophagitis rat model is established successfully by the 3 surgical methods. Mixture of gastric and duodenal juice plays an important role in pathogenesis of reflux esophagitis.
