Abstract
UPFC (unified power flow controller)is the most versatile FACTS (flexible AC transmission system) controller for power transmission. UPFC provides a full dynamic control of transmission parameters, i.e. voltage, line impedance and phase angle. The active power, reactive power and voltage of transmission line can be fast controlled by it. The modeling of UPFC for power flow study is discussed first, then the control strategy of UPFC and its applications on controlling power flow and improving transient stability are overviewed.
