Abstract

FLAC3D was applied to simulate analyze the coal cutting height affected to the stability of coal wall in the fully mechanized top coal caving mining face with a high coal cutting height. The simulation results showed that to increase the cutting height shall be first to increase the no horizontal restrained space on the coal wall which could enhance the deformation and failure of the coal wall and could cause the spalling on the coal wall. The spalling also would increase the non support area between the hydraulic support and the coal wall, which could seriously intensify the deformation of the top coal at the front of the coal mining face and could cause the roof falling at the front of the hydraulic powered supports. Therefore, the coal cutting height affected to the spalling of the coal wall would be more obvious. The site measurement also approved the above conclusion.
