Patterns and Their Implications of Travel Time

Travel time is the time consumed during a trip or trips made routinely. For residents in urbanized areas, whether their daily travel time is stable or they have a constant travel time budget has been one of the focuses of research for many years. This paper reviews the findings in travel time stability studies published abroad, and analyzes the patterns of travel time seen in Chinese cities. Recent survey data from several Chinese cities show that the travel time stability exists at an aggregated level. The reasons behind this stability and its implications are discussed as well.
