On the Rhetoric in On Function Words

In the Qing Dynasty,Yuan Renlin fully discussed the rhetoric of the function words in his book On Function Words,claiming that the function words conveyed verve and tones.From the angle of the rhetoric,he differentiated and analyzed the usage of the function words,expounded their conversion of different parts of speeches,demonstrated their contextual conditioning,and,in turn,made textual research into all the collected function words.Therefore,we have reasons to say that On Function Words is a treatise on rhetoric focusing on function words.
