Abstract
Embryonic and larval development of Pteria penguin Roding was observed microscopically and found to be similar to that of other bivalves. Following fertilization, the first cleavage began after 55 min and was followed by blastula and gastrula stages. At(27 ±1)℃, D-shaped larvae were present after 24 h. Umbonate larvae were first observed after 7 days, pediveligers were observed at the 20th day and later metamorphosed to settle as spat approximately 24 d after fertilization. The methods used to real P. penguin larvae are described and problems peculiar to their culture are discussed.
