Abstract

Objective To evaluate surgically induced astigmatism(SIA),postoperative astigmatism and uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA)after phacoemulsification with different incisions in cases of preoperative against-the-rule astigmatism.Methods 126 eyes with preoperative against-the-rule astigmatism were randomly assigned to 3 groups.They had phacoemulsification with different incisions separately:temporal corneal(group 1),superior corneal(group 2)and superior scleral tunnel(group 3).Postoperative astigmatism and UCVA were evaluated.Results Superior corneal incision resulted high SIA,which was 1 51±0 89(D).Temporal corneal incision resulted low postoperative astigmatism,which was 0 69±0 66(D).90% eyes in group 1 had UCVA 0 5 or better.Conclusions In cases of preoperative against-the-rule astigmatism,temporal corneal incision resulted low postoperative astigmatism and better uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA).
