Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in differentiating malignant from benign adnexal masses. Methods Contrast-enhanced ultrasound examination were performed in 43 patients with 53 adnexal masses. The deference of characteristic between benign and malignant was compared. Results All of 53 masses were confirmed by pathology. Most of 26 benign masses took on the enhancement from periphery into centre and showed regular vessels. Most of 27 malignant masses, rapidly took on the enhancement, came in the centre almost with periphery simultaneous, and showed bulky, tortuous vessels. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value of the discrimination of malignant from benign adnexal masses by contrast-enhanced ultrasound were 92.3%,96.2%,94.3%,96.2% and 92.3%,respectively.Conclusion Contrast-enhanced ultrasound provides informative tumor vascularity, and can precisely discriminate malignant from benign adnexal masses.
