Abstract
Objective To investigate sleep efficiency and characteristics in pediatric obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and primary snoring (PS) children. Methods 32 children with OSAHS, and 27 PS children were monitored by nocturnal polysomnography (PSG). The parameters of sleep efficiency(SE) and sleep composition, including apnea/hyponea index(AHI),stageⅠ sleep(S1)%, stageⅡ sleep(S2)%, slow wave sleep(SWS)% and rapid eye movement(REM)%, were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results In OSAHS group,the SE was significantly lower than that in PS group (P0.01). Compared with PS and normal range, OSAHS group had increased S1%(P0.01), and decreased S2%, SWS%, and REM%(P0.01). In PS group,the change of sleep composition was in normal range, but SE decreased. Conclusion OSAHS could decrease sleep efficiency and result in the change of sleep composition in children.
