Abstract
cAMP response element binding protein(CREB) is a constitutive transcription factor located in the nucleus.It can modulate the transcription of various target genes by binding to the cAMP response elements.Multiple signal transduction pathways converge on CREB,which plays an essential role in the formation of long-term memory and synaptic plasticity.Long-term memory depends on gene expression mediated by CREB.The dysfunction of CREB contributes to the neuronal dysfunction and degeneration that occur in aging and aging-associated neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
