Abstract
As a representative alkaline aggregate, nepheline was selected and the effect of it on the expansion of alkali-silica reaction was studied. The results indicate that the effect of nepheline on alkali-silica reaction could be rapidly examined while curing in water vapor at 80℃ or 150℃.As distinguished from alkali in cement, alkali released from nepheline in concrete would accelerate ASR in limited condition; the reason is that the decomposition reaction of nepheline in concrete can increase the alkali content in concrete and decrease the OH-concentration in pore solution.
