Investigation and ecological risk assessment of heavy metal pollution in agriculture soil of an abandoned electroplating industrial park of Chongqing,China

Abstract

The concentrations of Cr,Ni,Cu,Zn and Cd in the top soil( 0—20 cm) of an agriculture field near an abandoned electroplating industrial park located in Chongqing were analyzed by field sampling and laboratory analysis,aiming to evaluate the severity of heavy metal pollution and potential ecological risks of the contaminated soil. The average concentration of Cr,Ni,Cu,Zn and Cd in the collected samples were 6. 77,2. 02,4. 05,4. 29,and 3. 14 times as much as that of soil heavy metal background concentration in Chongqing,respectively. And it was observed that multiple heavy metal contamination mainly due to Cr and Zn. The single factor pollution index assessment showed that the severity of heavy metal pollution followed the order of CrZnCuCdNi in the field soil. Integrated factor pollution index showed that the investigated area was seriously polluted by heavy metals,and the integrated potential ecological risk index showed that the potential ecological risk level for the area was low.
