Constancy and Change in the Literary Theory of the Song Dynasty

Literary critiques of the Song Dynasty often dealt with the functions of literature: the inheritance of time-honored doctrines,the expression of common sense,and the imitation of classical models on the one hand, and the adaptation to new conditions on the other.Such a spirit of upholding change and sticking to tradition at the same time is inspiring for the construction of contemporary literary theory.
