Abstract

An electrorheological fluid is a smart material of vast application potential in vehicles,hydraulic equipments and machine building areas.Being closely linked with these industries,traditional lubricants will certainly face a huge challenge with the further application of the electrorheological fluids.In this paper, electrorheological fluids are briefly reviewed,including a historic introduction,electrorheological materials and a summary of the mechanisms of the electrorheological effect proposed before.Their applications in some lubricants are also introduced.
