Abstract

Objective To study the difference expression rate of suppressor gene p16 and PTEN (phosphatase and tensun homologdeleted on chromosome 10) in gallbladder cancer and extraheptic bile duct carcinoma. Methods Selection paraffin sample with 30 cases gallbladder cancer and 33 cases extrahepatic bile duct cancer were studied by S- P immunohistochemical technique. Results Total expression rate of PTEN and p16 proteins showed lower level in cancer of bile duct system, PTEN expression rate in bileduct cancer is lower than in gallbladder cancer (P 0.05). In gallbladder cancer, the p16 and PTEN protein has significant difference expression rate in well- differentiated carcinoma and poorly- differentiated carcinoma (P 0.05). Conclusions There is a higher incidence of negative expression of PTEN protein and p16 protein in bile duct system carcinoma, which indicated PTEN and p16 gene inactivation may play an important role in the genesis and development of bile duct system carcinoma.
