Endoscopic-guided adenoidectomy by microdebrider in children

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical outcomes and feasibility of pediatric endoscopic transnasal adenoidectomy by microdebrider.MethodsA total 52 children,aged 3-15 years with adenoid hypertrophy,were underwent endoscopic transnasal adenoidectomy by microdebrider under general anesthesia.Of the children,There were 21 with secretory otitis media,19 with snoring or obstructive sleep apnea and 9 with sinusitis caused by adenoid hypertrophy.ResultsThe diseased adenoids were removed completely in each cases no complication occurred.At 1-11 month follow-up,all children recovered with the relief or improvement of suffered diseases.ConclusionThe procedure provides excellent visualization of nasopharynx and proves safe and effective.Surgical outcomes were very favorable.This procedure is a viable alternative to classic adenoidectomy.
