Abstract

The corn starch was modified by α-amylase and the relationship between starch viscosity and influencing factors such as temperature, pH value, substrate consistency, reaction time and dosage of α-amylase were explored. The results show that the optimum condition was pH value 6.2, temperature 60℃, consistency of corn starch of 20%, consistency of Ca2+of 60 mg/l, reaction time of 10~15min and the dosage of α- amylase of 0.05%~0.06%(based on dry starch). The obtained products under the optimum conditions was used in surface sizing and the results show that the surface strength of paper was improved remarkably.
