Abstract

Objective To study the antioxidant potential of water soluble alkaloids from Rauvolfia(WSAR) by studying absorption spectrum of DPPH· reaction system. Methods The condition was drawn as follows,DPPH· reaction system was 2.5 ml of 6.5×10-5mol·L-1DPPH·+0.5 ml of sample solution with the reaction time of 30 min.The relation between DPPH·radical scavenging rate and the concentration of WSAR and TBHQ were studied, and IC50(the value of antioxidant concentration for scavenging half of DPPH·radical) was used as the index to evaluate scavenging capacity. Results The determining IC50 values were as follows:IC50(WSAR)=2.627×10-4 g/ml and IC50(TBHQ)=1.267×10-5 g/ml.Conclusion Water soluble alkaloids from R serpentina can be used as natural antioxidant.
