Abstract
The effect of Sb modification on the microstructure and properties of Mg-8Al-1Zn-1Si alloy were investigated. The results show that α-Mg matrix and Chinese script shaped Mg2Si phases are refined in some extent by adding 0.2%~0.6% Sb elements to Mg-8Al-1Zn-1Si alloy, and the mechanical properties are improved gradually. When the content of Sb is 0.8%,all of Mg2Si phases change into block and short rod shapes, the room temperature and elevated temperature mechanical properties of the alloy reach the maximum.Above the content of 0.8% Sb,the Mg2Si phases change into large Chinese script shaped again, and the mechanical properties reduce.
