Abstract

Objective To know about the epidemic dynamic and trend of soil-borne nematodiasis in Guangdong province, predict the epidemic trend and provide scientific basis for the development of control strategy. Methods Soil-borne nematode eggs were tested by the Kato-Katz stool examination method for residents over 3 years old and pinworm eggs additionally examined by cellophane tape method for children under 12.Results Totally 4 794 persons were examined, with a mean infection rate of soil-borne nematodes of 11.06%.The infection rate of ascaris was 1.34%,hookworm was 3.84% and whipworm was 2.15%.The pinworm infection rate of children was 28.74%.Conclusions The ascaris, hookworm and whipworm infection rates of residents in the surveillance sites of Guangdong were obviously lower than the survey results of the crowd infection status of human important parasitic diseases in the whole province in 2001-2004.The pinworm infection rate also decreased to some degree.
