Preservation and administration of urban traditional landscape features

Traditional urban landscape is a kind of cultural heritage that was developed and accumulated in long historical progress and changes. Landscape characteristics that involved through time and recognized as part of city features should be carefully preserved. This article, oriented on a number of successful examples of landscape characteristics preservation and regeneration of urban culture through urban landscape designing in the USA and other developed countries, suggests that the urban planning guideline should be based on the analysis of landscape identities, so as to ensure its controlling and guiding role in the preservation of historic districts. In the mean time, the article also emphasizes the rule of dynamic landscape development which asks for creating new urban landscapes with local charms and new-age characteristics while protecting the landscape identity.
