PROGRESS IN APOMICTIC RICE RESEARCH

This is a review on apomictic rice research. Except in China, apomictic rice material has not been found in the world. Study of apomictic rice has been conducted through three stages in China. induction of apomixis in vivo, induction in vitro, screen and selection from rice cultivars and crossing combination. Some apomictic phenomenan, such as adventitious embryony, autonomous formation of embryo and endosperm, and high frequency of apomixis, have been found in polyembryonic rice,parthenogenesis of male sterile and crossing offspring. Of them, SAR-1, C1001, HDAR with apomictic characteristics were introduced. The problem and prospect of apomictic rice research are discussed.
