Abstract

Tissue parameters in leaves of 13 different sea buckthorn cultivars were observed and measured . The results showed that differences of leaf thickness, epidermis hair density, stoma density, stockade tissue thickness, ratio of stockade tissue thickness to sponge tissue thickness, CTR, SR, and size of upper epidermis cells are significant while differences of epidermis thickness, cutin layer thickness and stoma length were not. The cultivars with high epidermis hair density, high stoma density, thick stockade tissue, high ratio of stockade tissue thickness to sponge tissue thickness, and high CTR and SR were of greater drought resistance. On the basis of the observation, the cultivars were divided into-three categories: high drought-resistant cultivar is Hippophae rhamnoides L. Subsp. Sinensis; middle drought-resistant cultivars are Juren, Alieyi, Dongjiu, Fengchan, Chuyi, Katuni, M5, MH, Ansha, Xiangyang and 8911; and low drought-resistant cultivar is M4.
