Combined use of transurethral vaporization of prostate and transurethral resection of prostate for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia:A report of 178 cases

Objective:To evaluate the effect of combined use of transurethral vaporization of prostate(TUVP) and transurethral resection of the prostate(TURP) in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH). Methods:TUEVP and TURP were concomitantly perfomed in 178 cases of BPH.Results:The mean operation time was 67 minutes (40 to 130min).Postoperatively,transurethral resection syndrome(TURS) occurred in five case,three cases needed blood transfusion during the operation,The mean catheterization time was 4.4 days(1 to 6 days),The peak flow rate increased from (6.3±1.4)ml/s to (20.2±2.5)ml/s (P0.01),and the IPSS decreased from (32.4±3.8) to (7.3±1.8) (P0.01) during 3 to 36 months.Conclusion:TUEVP combined with TURP is safe and effective method,with fewer complications and less influence on physiological function to treat BPH.
