Abstract
Objective To study the effects of Metformin(MF) on the serum sex hormone concentrations in rats. Methods The serum hormone concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay(RIA).Results MF(135mg·kg -1·d -1,ig,14d)decreased serum T concentration in male rats and serum LH concentrations in female rats significantly(P0.05,P0.01),respectively,but had no effects on serum LH,FSH concentrations in male rats and serum P,E 2 concentrations in female rats.MF(270mg·kg -1·d -1,ig,14d)decreased serum T concentrations while had no effect on serum FSH,LH concentration level in male rats, but increased serum E 2 and P concentration while decreased serum LH concentrations level significantly in female rats(P0.01).Conclusion Metformin had inhibitory effects on serum LH(♀),T(♂)concentrations but stimulative effects on serum P,E 2 concentrations in female rats.Metformin had no effects on secretory function of FSH.
