Abstract
The graft compolymerization of acrylonitrile and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid(AMPS) onto starch was reported using [Mn(H_2P_2O_7)_3]~(3-) as initiator. The graft polymer was determinated by infrafed spectrum. The absorbency of saponified graft polymer changes with reaction conditions was also studied. The optimal reaction condition corresponds to molar fraction 5% AMPS in monomer, molar ratio (1.5) for starch/monomer, a concentrate of (2.0) ×10~(-3) mol/L for [Mn(H_2P_2O_7)_3]~(3-) and a reaction temperature of 30 ℃. The IR spectrum of the graft copolymer shows the peaks characteristic of the grafted chains. The maximum water absorbency of saponified graft polymer is 1345 g/g.
