Water Footprint and its Thought in Hunan Province in 2005

Water footprint is the best index which estimates the environment impacts to water resource system by human activities. In this paper, Hunan province which is an rich -water region in south china, was taken as the research object. The water footprint account was construct and the total water footprint and the related measure index were counted. The results showed that the water footprint in Hunan province is relatively low in the nation. After the analysis about the structure of water footprint, flux of virtual water in the agricultural and animal production and the current of water footprint, it was thought that the influence study of virtual water strategy is important, the water resource management notion should be innovated and ensure regional and national water resource security, the agricultural structure should be adjusted to ensure regional and national food security.
