Abstract
Researchers have different views on grammaticalization and lexicalization.After defining the terms of grammaticalization and lexicalization,this paper suggests six similarities and six differences between them.As far as the evolution of discourse markers,there are two views: grammaticalization or lexicalization.Based on the analysis of four examples,this paper holds that discourse markers are not the results of grammaticalization or lexicalization,but the results of pragmaticalization.
